Booneville, KY – Martin Abner, Jr., 38, of Judd Road, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007,
at his residence. He was born in Oneida, KY, on April 2, 1969, to the late Martin and
Beatrice Combs Abner. He was a former U. S. Marine and a member of the D. A. V. He
enjoyed motorcycles, music and being with people. He is survived by two sisters,
Mildred E. (& Ricky) Hudson of Booneville, KY and Georgia L. Abner and her fiancée,
Charles “Skip” Hamilton, Jr. of Morrow, Ohio and a nephew, Colby A. Hudson of Booneville,
KY; and his maternal grandfather, Robert Combs, also of Booneville. Also surviving
are his seven maternal uncles, Chester and David Combs, both of Booneville, KY, Charlie
Combs of Ricetown, KY, Willie Dale Combs of Maineville, OH, Oakley Combs of Hamilton,
OH, Maxie Combs of Morrow, OH and Letcher Combs of South Lebanon, OH; and one maternal
aunt, Georgia Moyers of Beattyville, KY; a paternal aunt, Marie (& Kezia) McGrafth of
Morrow, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services with military

Abner, Washington Edward "Dickie"
Buckhorn, KY – Washington Edward “Dickie” Abner, age 62, husband of Helen Rice Abner, passed
away Friday, October 30, 2009, at his residence. Dickie was born in Owsley Co., KY, on May 22,
1947, to Ruby Daniel Abner of Booneville, KY, and the late Dan Abner. He was a U. S. Army Veteran
having served in the Vietnam Conflict, a former supervisor for Star Fire Mining, and a member of
the Meadow Creek Pentecostal Church in Lerose, KY. Along with his wife of 38 years, he is survived
by three sons, Jerry Edward Abner of Lawrenceburg, IN, and Claude Wayne Abner and Dickie Lee Abner,
both of Buckhorn, KY; two daughters, Sharon Evelyn Noble of Buckhorn, Ky, and Regina Gail Hurley of
Chavies, KY; and 13 grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Joseph Casey Agner of
Buckhorn, KY; four sisters, Wanda Sue Maupin, Regina Light, and Nadina Ott, all of Connersville,
IN, and Darlene Stamper of Canoe, KY; an uncle, several aunts; and a host of foster children, and
other friends and relatives. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rickie Abner.

Abshear, Cathy Harris
Cathy Abshear, age 57, of Peppertown, Indiana died Friday, November 6, 2009 at her residence. Born
March 17, 1952 in Kentucky she was the daughter of Virgil & Anna Mae (Thompson) Harris. On September
17, 1973 she was united in marriage to Alan Abshear, and he survives. She was a member of the Buena
Southern Missionary Baptist Church. Besides Alan, her husband of over 36 years, survivors include her
parents, Virgil & Anna Mae Harris of Boonville, Kentucky, one daughter, Hope Elaine Glenn of Batesville,
Indiana, one son, Virgil Andrew Abshear of North Vernon, Indiana; six sisters, Phyllis Cavins of Tyner,
Kentucky; Lynda Moore of Franklin, Ohio, Berniece Coffey of Boonville, Kentucky, Sandy Coffey of Tyner,
Kentucky, Rosie Harris of Boonville, Kentucky and Judy Ford of Marietta, Georgia; as well as nine

Metamora, IN – Sharon K. Harris Abshear, 51, formerly of Owsley Co., KY, passed away Friday,
November 2, 2007, at her residence. Sharon was born March 25, 1956, in Middletown, Ohio,
to Virgil and Anna Mae Thompson Harris. She was a homemaker and a member of the Buena
Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Indiana. Along with her parents, she is survived by
her husband, Larry Abshear of Metamora, IN; three sons, Dwayne Reynolds of Laurel, IN,
Christopher Harris of Shelbyville, IN and Virgil Harris of Greensburg, IN; two step children,
Jeff Abshear and Sherry Jarbo; and 13 grandchildren. Also surviving are seven sisters, Phyllis
Cavins and Sandy Coffey of Jackson County, KY, Bernice Coffey and Rosie Harris of Booneville,
KY, Linda Moore of Franklin, OH, Cathy Abshear of Oldenburg, IN and Judy Ford of Marietta, GA;

Booneville, KY – Thelma Judd Addison, age 88, widow of Clarence Addison, passed away Monday, October
6, 2008, at the Lee County Care & Rehabilitation Center in Beattyville, KY. Thelma was born in
Owsley County, KY, on November 10, 1919, to the late Edd and Lucy Bowles Judd. She was a homemaker,
and had attended the Church on the Farm in Owsley County, KY. She is survived by her daughter-in-law,
Brenda Addison of Beattyville, KY; a sister, Lois Addison of Cincinnati, OH; three grandchildren;
three great grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives. Along with her husband, and her
parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James E. Addison, and a brother, Elmo Judd. Funeral

Aker, Ruth Gabbard
Booneville, KY – Ruth Gabbard Aker, 93, widow of Dr. John Raymond Aker, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2004
at her residence. An Owsley County native, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Isaac Hugh and Elizabeth Eversole
Gabbard, born on May 20, 1911. Mrs. Aker worked at the Owsley County Public Library to the age of 91, and was
honored as one of Kentucky’s oldest employees. She was the former postmistress at Arnett, Kentucky. She was a
member of the Booneville Presbyterian Church and was also a quilter and craftswoman. She is survived by a brother,
Michael Gabbard, and his wife Marjorie; two sisters, Nancy Ellis and Louise Ferdig and a sister-in-law, Naomi
Gabbard, all of Booneville, Kentucky; six nieces and six nephews, their children and grandchildren; numerous other
relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, 11:00 o’clock, at Booneville

Berry, KY – Addie Barrett Alford, 74, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at her
home. Born on February 4, 1931 in Booneville, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late
Bent and Mary Young Barrett. She married Caleb Alford and he preceded her in death in
1986, after nearly forty years of marriage. Formerly, she worked for Midwest Bag
Company of Des Moines, Iowa. She was a member of the Marcus Crooked Creek Baptist
Church, Pendleton County. She leaves three son: Kenneth Alford, Manuel Alford and Mike
Alford, all of Berry, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Lori Teegarden of Berry, Kentucky,
Jeff Alford of Falmouth, Kentucky, Eric Alford of Creston, Iowa, Kristine Morgan of
Omaha, Nebraska, Edward Alford of Omaha, Nebraska and Matthew Alford of Defiance, Ohio;
three great grandchildren, Jesse Teegarden of Berry, Kentucky, Zachary Alford of Omaha,
Nebraska and Tyler Alford of Creston, Iowa; two sisters, Marie Conner of Hamilton, Ohio
and Josie Estes of Nashville, Tennessee and a brother, John Barrett of Hamilton, Ohio.

Cornie Allen, 85, of Berea, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the Pattie A. Clay
Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 1, 1918, in Owsley County, the son of the
late Lewis "Tack" and Lucy Allen. He was retired from Muncie Buick in Winchester after
18 years of dedicated sales service. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the
U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Alice Allen; three sons, Kirby (Karen) Allen of
Versailles, Mike (Johnna) Allen of Berea and Toney (Jennifer) Allen of Berea; two sisters,
Julie Middleton of Florence and Eva Deaton of Beattyville; five grandchildren, Kim
(Glen) Hartley of Versailles, Kary (Stacy) Allen of Lexington, and Cameron, Brianna and
Ty Allen of Berea; and three great-grandchildren, Mathew, Kayla and Drake Allen of
Versailles. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hershel and Jessie Allen; and three

BROOKVILLE, Ind.-- Hazel Allen, 87, of Brookville, Ind., died Thursday, Nov.1, 2007.
Born Jan. 14, 1920, in Boonville, Ky., to Charles and Rhoda Edwards Duff, she was a
homemaker. Survivors include daughter, Angela Allen; son, Charles Allen; and sister,
Gladys Hollon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Allen. Service will be

Allen, Hortense Smith
Allen, Hortense 82 of Dayton went to be with her Lord on Saturday April 18, 2009. Hortense
was born in Owsley County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late David and Nancy Smith. She is
preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, John Allen, and her daughter Patricia
(Allen) Rex. She is also preceded in death by her brother Dale Smith and sister Carmen Meinzer.
Hortense attended Oneida Baptist Institute. She later taught school prior to moving to Ohio. She
was a member of Drexel Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school before taking over
the care of her aging parents. Hortense loved to cook and garden, but most of all spending time
with her family. She was a loving wife, mother and friend and will be missed sorely. She leaves
to cherish her memories her son, Gerald (Dana) Allen of Greenville, daughter Glenna Allen of
Ansonia, and son Darryl (Karen) Allen of Xenia. Son-in-law Terry Rex of Arcanum. Grandchildren
Kevin Rex, Deborah Blower, and Rachel Allen. Great grandchildren Abigail Blower and Kaylah Rex.

is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia, and a brother, Glenn Amburgy and his wife,
Betty of Xenia. He served in the U.S. Army European Theater during WW II where he received the
EAME Ribbon with 3 Stars and a Purple Heart for his valor. Clyde was retired from both N.C.R. after

Booneville, KY – Rev. Wayne Spencer Amburgy, 84, of the Pebworth Community,
husband of Gertrude Barrett Amburgy, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the
Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, Ky. He was born December 20, 1920, in Lerose,
Ky., to the late Floyd Day and Jalah Spencer Amburgy. He had a very active Christian
life as a minister of the Assembly of God, he traveled with a singing quartet, along
with his wife, Gertrude. They aired “Supper Time: on the radio to the surrounding
areas, and he took part in forming the Ministerial Association in Owsley County. He was
also a member of the Owsley County Saddle Club, the Lions Club for over 50 years, and
the Historical Society. He was the owner and operator of the W. S. Amburgy & Sons Store
and a Kentucky Colonel. Along with his wife of 58 years, he is survived by two sons,
Randell and wife, Mary, and Kendall and wife, Judy; and two granddaughters, Shelby and
husband, Sam and Stacy and husband, Tim. Other survivors are three brothers: Willis
Blaine, Ellis Leo and Cotton Amburgy; two sisters, Ola Faye Roblin and Viola Kay Amburgy
and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 1,
2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home with the Rev. Garry Amburgy

Amis, Charley X.
Charley X. Amis, 83 of Connersville died unexpectedly at 10:40 PM Saturday, December 27,
2008 at Fayette Regional Health System after being admitted earlier that same day. He was
born March 30, 1925 in Ricetown, KY, one of eight children of Willie and Nannie Noble Amis.
During W.W.II, he served as a Army Medic in the European Theater. He came to Connersville
in the 1950's as a stone mason and a carpenter and later, he was employed at Ford Electronics
and Refrigeration and it’s successor until his retirement in 1983. On July 17, 1971, he was
married in Metamora, IN to Lela M. Allen. Mrs. Amis died November 27, 2005. He was an avid
outdoors man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed spending time with his
granddaughters. Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Hampton and husband, Dennis of
Connersville; two granddaughters, Sarah and Emily Hampton; a brother, Pleasant Amis and
wife, Jocelyn of Booneville, KY; a sister, Irene Bowling and husband, James of Ricetown,
KY; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Beside his wife of 34 years, he is preceded
in death by four brothers, Virgil. Ed, Earl and Allison Amis; two sisters, Madelon Harris
and Pauline Barrett. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at
Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with military rites conducted by the Fayette County

1915 in Owsley County, KY to the late John Dillard and Elvira McKinney Anderson. He is

Booneville, KY – Johnny Angel, 57, of Route 3, passed away June 1, 2007 at the Kentucky
River Medical Center in Jackson, KY. He was a logger. Born on December 27, 1949, and
an Owsley County native, he was the son of Leonard and Gertrude Gilbert Angel. He is
survived by a son, Jonothan (& Shelly) Angel, a daughter, Selena (& Todd) Faulkner, two
step-sons, Craig “Buckshot” Adams and Ernie Gipson, all of Booneville; two grandchildren,

were held on Monday, June 4, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Searcy and Strong Funeral Home with Rev.
James Morris officiating. Visitation was held on Sunday evening, June 3, 2007 from 5:00
to 9:00 p.m. Burial in the Brandenburg-Angel Cemetery with Searcy and Strong Funeral

Angel, William
Booneville, KY – William Angel, 44, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the
U. K. Hospital, Lexington, KY. He was the son of the late Albert and Velma Tolson Angel.
He was an auto body technician. Survivors include a daughter, Tabatha Angel of Germantown,
Ohio; four brothers, Neal Angel of Athol, Kentucky, Dennie Angel of Booneville, Kentucky,
Bobby Angel and Kenny Angel, both of Middletown, Ohio; a sister, Alexis Angel Gallimore of
Germantown, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday,
September 25, 2006 at the Watts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Venters officiating.
Burial followed in the Hensley Angel Cemetery, Athol, Kentucky. Watts Funeral Home was in

Ashcraft, Carolyn Huff
Middlesboro, KY – Carolyn Ashcraft, age 63, formerly of Owsley Co., KY, passed away Friday,
February 13, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. She was born October 20, 1945,
in Bloomington, IN to the late Wes and Ethel Chandler Huff, and she was a homemaker. Survivors
include her special companion, Herman McIntosh of Middlesboro, KY; three sons, Gary Blevins of
Louisville, KY, Kenny Blevins of Lexington, KY and Paul Blevins of Middlesboro, KY; four daughters,
Tara Peters of Booneville, KY, Danielle Ashcraft, Kala McIntosh and Stacy McIntosh, all of
Middlesboro, KY; a sister, Frances Jones of Jacksonville, FL; 11 grandchildren; two great
grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded
in death by a daughter, Letha Kay Norville and a son, Michael Blevins. Funeral services were held
Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home, with Rev. Joe Powlas
officiating. Visitation held on Tuesday morning, at the funeral home, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until
time of service. Burial in the Cow Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cow Creek, KY, with the
