He attended and graduated from North Central College, Illinois and then went on to graduate from Naperville Seminary, Naperville, Illinois. Waldemar retired from the Red Bird Missionary Conference in 1995. Waldemar received a phone call asking if he would be willing to serve as a pastor in Ninilchik, Alaska. Waldemar and Pauline agreed to serve for one year. They packed a few personal items, and sight unseen, ventured to the pristine Alaskan environment. Both Waldemar and Pauline fell in love with the area and the people of Ninilchik and stayed for five years. The desire to be closer to family and the grandchildren brought them back to Kentucky, where they purchased a home in London. Not being able to sit still for very long, Waldemar spent many hours as a volunteer at the Bennett Center of London, a mission institution of the Red Bird Missionary Conference of the United Methodist Church. Burch, Idola Cecil
Idola Cecil Burch, age 83, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006 at
Westover Retirement Community in Hamilton. Idola was born in Owsley County, Kentucky,
the youngest of eleven children of John and Lucinda Cecil. She came to Hamilton at age
17 to work in the Champion paper mills. After her marriage to Emery "Jack" Burch, he
served in the U.S. Navy Pacific fleet during World War II while she worked as a
civilian supporting the naval base at Port Hueneme. After the war, the couple returned
to Kentucky, started a family, and then came back to Hamilton where Jack took a job at
Fisher Body and Idola set about raising their growing family while working a series of
part-time jobs. Determining to make a career in real estate, Idola took college
business courses at night and passed the state exam. She worked until retirement for
several real estate agencies, making a strong reputation and many friends. Idola made
many sacrifices to make sure her children had musical instruments, Boy Scout gear, trips
to unfamiliar places, or anything else she saw as promoting learning and growth. She
was a helper at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, collected for the American Heart
Association, and was a generous donor to many causes from her limited means. For
herself, Idola sang with the Champion Chorus, danced with the Hamilton Senior Steppers,
traveled with Hamilton Senior Citizens, learned the arts of oil painting and gardening,
and decorated her neighborhood by beautifying her home and grounds. Her children
remember her most of all as a tough survivor, overcoming many challenges and giving her
children and grandchildren a high example to meet. Idola is survived by her sons Kenneth
Burch of San Francisco, California, Philip Burch of Middletown, David Burch and wife
Joy Rose of Hamilton, Stephen Burch and wife Mary Jo of Marion, Indiana, eleven
grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, 10AM-12PM at

Burch, Versal "Joe"
Dixon, WY – Versal “Joe” Burch died July 24, 2007 at age 84. He was born
February 25, 1923, outside Booneville, KY, near Island City, in Owsley County, to Taylor
and Lavada (Carmack) Burch. He was one of 10 children to be raised on the family farm.
His marriage to Evelyn Gray began on February 4, 1946, after he returned from World War II.
Joe and Evelyn relocated to Colorado in the early 1960’s. They have raised five children,
15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, all of whom were adored and cherished by their
father/grandfather. Joe began ranching in the early 1970’s after purchasing a ranch north
of Steamboat Springs. In 1992, they relocated to a ranch near Dixon, Wyoming, just on the
Colorado/Wyoming border. Joe truly enjoyed the country life and relished the hard work.
Even at 84 years old, he still enjoyed irrigating, taking care of his cattle and overseeing
every aspect of the ranch. He truly enjoyed working and could work circles around most men,
even those half his age. Throughout the years, many strangers may have knocked on his door,
but they never were strangers when they left. They were life-long friends. He was loved by
everyone who had the pleasure of his company. He was kind, loving, honest, hard working,
generous and compassionate. Joe was made up of all the greatest qualities and had a heart of
pure gold. He was a great provider and treasured his wife, Evelyn, of 61 years, and adored
his entire family. Joe also loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and marble games and truly
loved pranks and jokes. He was funny himself and took great pleasure in making everyone around
him smile. He was a small man in stature, but he wasn’t a “small man”. He was a huge man with
a huge heart and was a huge part of our lives. He will be greatly missed but will live on
forever in the memories held in our hearts. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; children,
Burdetta, Larry, Barbara, Greg and Lori; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters,
Opal, Jeanette, Beatrice, Wilma, Lola and Marlene; and brothers, Vernon and Leon. It brings
great comfort to know he is in a better place with God looking after him and guiding him through
Heaven. God must have needed another angel. Memorial services were held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday,
July 28, 2007, at the Episcopal Church in Dixon, Wyoming. The burial was at the Savery Cemetery,
with a potluck gathering for family and friends immediately following at the Burch Ranch.
Everyone was welcome. Booneville Sentinel August 9, 2007. (Courtesy of Craig Daily Press, WY).
