Booneville, KY – Eva Edwards, 73, of Route 1, passed away at her residence on April 3, 2006 after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a Christian. She was born in Clay County, on April 21, 1932, the daughter of Herman and Sarah Madden Ball. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Edwards of Booneville; a son, Wendell (& Zella) Edwards, Booneville, Kentucky; a daughter, Caroline E. Little of Campton, Kentucky; her mother, Sarah Ball of Booneville, Kentucky; Caroline’s special friend, Bradford Bryant of Campton, Kentucky; former son-in-law, Roy Lee Little of Booneville, Kentucky; a brother, Mendle Ball, Booneville, Kentucky; and a sister, Lola Southard of London, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Ball and a sister, Irene Ball. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home with Rev. Hank Patton officiating. Visitation was held from 5 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Cincinnati, OH – Lonnie Wayne Edwards, 57, passed away at his residence suddenly. He was a Vietnam veteran and worked for the TIP Trucking Company. Born at Oneida, KY on December 8, 1950, he was the son of Henry & Dessie Williams Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Verna Brinson Edwards, a son, Chad Edwards, and a daughter Melissa Motz, all of Blue Ash, OH; four sisters, Beulah Davidson, Oneida, KY, Nadine Burch and Margaret Burch, both of Booneville, KY and Carolena Cook of Monroe, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gwendolyn Gabbard and a brother, Johnny Edwards. He was also preceded in death by a nephew. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 7, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home with Rev. Victor Edwards officiating. Visitation was held prior to the funeral at the funeral home from 12 Noon until time of service. Burial in the William D. Booneville, KY – Wendell Edwards, 47, husband of Zella Hoover Edwards, of Route 1, passed away May 24, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after a short illness. He was a member of the Spencer Fork Community Church and the Booneville Masonic Lodge. He was born on August 15, 1960 to Eugene and Eva Ball Edwards of Owsley County and was an auto body repairman. Besides his wife, he is survived by his father, Eugene Edwards, of Booneville, KY; a sister, Caroline E. Little of Booneville, KY; and a daughter, Jessica Estes of Beattyville, KY. Funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Spencer Fork Community Church with Rev. Doug Kraft officiating. Visitation will be held after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the church. Elkins, Johnny Green
Booneville, KY - Johnny Green Elkins, 73, was born February 27, 1933, to Moses Elkins and Estelle Abshear Elkins in Akron, Ohio and passed away Friday, February 2, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY, after an extended illness. Mr. Elkins served with the U. S. Army, a veteran of the Korean War, and later worked as a welder at the Blue Grass Ordinance in Winchester, KY. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Moses and Estelle Elkins, oldest brother, Thomas Edward Elkins and youngest daughter, Dianna Harmon of Round Mountain, Nevada and his namesake, Johnny Long. He leaves behind three daughters, Sharon Rose (& Scott) of Battle Mt., Nevada, Tamera Elkins, Round Mt., Nevada and Karen Denise Green of Lovelock, Nevada; and five grandchildren, granddaughters, Misty Rose Reno, Nevada, Leah True, Washington State, Taler Harmon, Payson, Arizona and two grandsons, Andrew and Ryan Green of Lovelock, Nevada; two sisters, Genevieve (& Jack) Long, Booneville, KY, Dianna Lynn (& Ralph) Hensley, Paris, KY; and three brothers, Harold (&Mary) Elkins, Huntsville, Alabama, Robert Glenn (&Leona) Elkins, Tampa, FLA and Russell (&Sue) Elkins, Booneville, KY; and a host of relatives and friends. Ellis, Nancy Gabbard
Booneville, KY – Nancy Gabbard Ellis, 96, widow of George Samuel Ellis, passed away March 19, 2005 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Isaac Hugh and Elizabeth Eversole Gabbard, born on Cow Creek May 24, 1908. Before retiring at age 85, she worked at the Senior Citizen Center and was a teacher’s aide for the K.I.P. program. She was a member of the Booneville Presbyterian Church. She is survived by one son, Thomas Ellis and his wife Bobbie of Denton, Texas; one daughter, Elizabeth Ellis; two grandchildren, Scott Ollis and Robin Hahn; and two great- grandchildren, Ruby Ollis and Christopher Watkins, all of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Michael Gabbard and his wife Marjorie; one sister, Louise Ferdig; and one sister-in-law, Naomi Gabbard, all of Booneville; six nieces and five nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock at the Booneville Presbyterian Church in Booneville with Rev. Joe Powlas officiating. Visitation was from 9 to 11 at Searcy and Strong Funeral Home. Estes, Margie Moore
Richmond, KY – Margie Moore Estes, 60, of North Third Street, Richmond, died Monday morning, May 30, in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. She was born on June 16, 1944, in Owsley County, the daughter of the late Samuel and Dora Moore. In 1966, while working as a waitress at the Colonel Drive-in in Richmond, she was the only resident honored to be given in marriage by Colonel Harlan Sanders. An excellent housekeeper, she enjoyed playing bingo in the community room of the Richmond Manor and caring for her dog and companion, "Biggsbee." She was preceded in death by: one daughter, Dawn Star Estes; one brother, Joseph Moore; and one sister, Rosalee Cruse. Margie is survived by: two daughters, Donna Lee Proctor (Delbert James) of Ripley, Ohio, and Stephanie Ann Thacker of Richmond; two brothers, Everett Moore of Richmond and Jackie Moore of Waco; four sisters, Elizabeth (Lenville) Hall, Ethel (Logan) Cody Jr. and Bonnie (William) Cody, all of Richmond, and Anna Faye (Billy) Stokley of Berea; three grandchildren, Del, Zachery and Amanda Proctor; and several nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home, West Main Street, Richmond, with the Rev. Phillip Payne officiating. Florie (Burns) Evans, 81, beloved wife of Charles Evans, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine, KY. Florie was born April 12, 1926, in Clay County, KY, to the late Charlie and Nancy Margaret (Stidham) Burns. She was a homemaker and attended the Pine Grove Baptist Church. Survivors are her husband of 32 years, Charles Evans; three sons, Gary Joe (& Helen) Evans and Darrell (& Brenda) Evans, all of Pebworth, KY and Terry L. (& Lindy) Evans of Berea, KY; one daughter, Sandra L. (& Howard) Price of Vincent, KY; 11 grandchildren, Dereke J., Ashley, Heath, Chad and Grant Evans, Angie C. Abney, Shelly Wurtle, Donald and David Price, Donna Creech and Jennye Montford; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives. Lexington, KY – Wilbert Hall "Tib" Evans, 81, of Longview Drive, formerly of Owsley County, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 15, 2005 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Mr. Evans was born in Booneville, Kentucky, on August 26, 1923, the son of the late Elmer and Birdie Hall Evans. He was a former salesman for the Don Meyers Shoe Company in Lexington, Kentucky, a retired U. S. Army Veteran, having served in WW II, and a member of the Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Chaney Evans of Lexington, Kentucky; a brother, Donnie Evans of Booneville, Kentucky; three sisters, Ruth Combs of Lexington, Kentucky, Ruby Morgan of Pebworth, Kentucky and Wilma Marshall of Booneville, Kentucky; and a host of friends and relatives. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and Clarence Evans and a sister, Erma Duff. Funeral services were held on Sunday evening, at the funeral home from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Eversole, Clyde
Booneville, KY – Clyde Eversole, 92, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, KY, after a long illness. Clyde was born June 15, 1915, in Owsley County, KY, to the late Seaber and Nettie Callahan Eversole. He was a former farmer and was known for his love and collection of motorcycles. He was remembered as owning and riding the first motorcycle in Owsley County. Survivors include three sisters, Marie McKinney of Irvine, KY and Lela (& Dale Bishop) and Geneva Mason, both of Booneville, KY; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and relatives. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Roy Mason and a nephew, Gary Mason. Funeral services were held Friday, May 2, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Powlas officiating. Visitation was held on Friday, beginning at 12:00 noon until time of service, at the funeral home. Burial in the Esau Gabbard Cemetery on Indian Creek in Owsley County, with the Booneville Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
