Albert Gabbard, Jr., age 82 of Middletown, OH formerly of Lebanon,
OH passed peacefully June 13, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. Born
April 26, 1927 in Owsley County, KY he was the son of Albert and Matilda (Turner)
Gabbard and a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Albert was a
retired truck driver and a proud U.S. Marine Corps. Veteran of WWII. Preceded in
death by his parents and brothers, Vernon and Herman Gabbard, he leaves behind his
loving wife, Irene (Lunsford) Gabbard of Middletown, OH; children, Shirley Ann (Jack)
Brooks of Logan, OH, Kenneth Lee (Linda) Gabbard of Vandalia, OH, Wendell Douglas
(Darsey) Gabbard of Granger, IN, Randall Blaine (Faye) Gabbard of Lebanon, OH, Michael
David (Rhonda) Gabbard of Lebanon, Jeffrey Bruce (Cassandra) Gabbard of Lebanon and
James Russell (Kelly) Gabbard of Lebanon; 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and
many other family members and friends. Funeral services were held June 17, 2009 at
11:00am at the Lebanon Freewill Baptist, Lebanon, OH with Pastor Andy Maynard officiating.
Entombment with military honors was in the Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville, OH.

Booneville, KY – Bobby Lee Gabbard, 55, of Cow Creek, passed
away Sunday, May 15, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Oneida, Kentucky on
July 19, 1950, to the late Charlie and Clarice Smith Gabbard. He was a former
Deputy Sheriff of Owsley County, and a self-employed farmer. Survivors include
his brother, Bruce Gabbard of Booneville, Kentucky; a special friend, Louise Roberts;

Booneville, KY – Brown Gabbard, Jr., 68, of Ricetown, Kentucky,
husband of Margaret Sue McIntosh Gabbard, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at
his residence. He was born February 26, 1936, in Burton Fork (Breathitt Co.), Kentucky
to the late Brown and Polly Deaton Gabbard. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a retired
farmer, and a member of the Bee Branch Chapel on Upper Buffalo. Along with his wife of
46 years, he is survived by two sons, Ronnie Gabbard of Frankfort, Kentucky and Stephen
Gabbard of Ricetown, Kentucky; two daughters, Betty Jo Neeley and Kim Reed, both of
Booneville, Kentucky; four grandchildren and a great grandchild. Other survivors are
two brothers, Earl Gabbard of Richmond, Kentucky and Bobby Gabbard of Ricetown,
Kentucky; a sister, Ruth Wilder of Seymour, Indiana; and a host of friends and
relatives. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Gabbard.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Booneville
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Powlas officiating. Visitation was held on Friday

South Lebanon, OH Herbert Gabbard, 79, passed away peacefully Tuesday,
November 18, 2008, at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio with his family by his side.
He was born July 5, 1929 in Booneville, KY, the son of Martin and Martha Burton Gabbard.
He had worked for the Kings Island Amusement Park. He was a member of the Masonic Lodges
in Kentucky and Cincinnati, OH for 50 years, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the First
Baptist Church of South Lebanon, OH and a loving and devoted husband, dad and papaw. He
was preceded in death by his mother, a step-son, Billy Lee Fugate, and two brothers, Danny
and Arnold Gabbard. He is survived by his loving wife, Neta Mae Fugate Gabbard of South
Lebanon; sons, Marty Gabbard of South Lebanon and Winford Gabbard of Kentucky; daughters,
Sheila Goodin of Cincinnati and Barb Jean of Washington, D. C.; brothers, John Shug
(& Eunice) Gabbard and Russell (& Marilyn) Gabbard of Kentucky; sisters, Dorothy (& Sammy)
Peters and Helen (& Preston) Robertson, all of Kentucky; a granddaughter, Kayla Goodin;

passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at his residence. He was a retired school
teacher with the Owsley County School System for 40 years, and also a farmer. Mr.
Gabbard was a member of the Cow Creek Presbyterian Church. Born on May 2, 1928, in
Owsley Co., he was the son of the late Henry and Melissa Wilson Gabbard. Survivors
include his wife, Mrs. Lena Mae Eversole Gabbard, a daughter, Mrs. Rhonda Wayde

Moore McIntosh. She was a former employee of the Owsley County School System, and the
Owsley County Senior Citizen Center in Booneville. She was also a member of the Cow

Virgil Gabbard was born January 13, 1920 in Owsley County and departed

Gabbard of Indiana and by a sister- Mabel Hardy of Ohio. Virgil was blessed with 16
grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Virgil was also
preceded in death by his loving wife- Alma (Wright) Gabbard and by a son David Gabbard.
Virgil was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and he was a
member of the Second Blackwater Baptist Church and also attended Egypt Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held 1:00 PM Friday, December 21, 2007 at Lakes Funeral Home with
Bro. Frank Peters, Bro. Eddy Judd and Bro. Harold Becknell officiating. Burial followed
in the Flannery Cemetery in Tyner, KY. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gandert, Margaret Thompson Sparks
Margaret Sparks-Gandert passed away on May 23, 2008 at the age of 93.
She was married to Lee Calvin Sparks of Sextons Creek, KY until his death September 1,
2001. Five years later she married Harold R. Gandert and they moved to Scottsdale, AZ
until his passing, nine years ago. For many years Margaret had been an active member
of the Scottsdale Bible Church and Scottsdale Baptist Church, Scottsdale, AZ. Before
moving from Connersville she was a long time member of Western Avenue Baptist Church
and Connersville Baptist Temple. In addition to raising her four children, Margaret
was proud of obtaining her GED at age 60. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star
for over 50 years, first of Sextons Creek, KY and later chapter #346 of Connersville,
IN. Margaret retired from Kroger Grocery Co. in Connersville. Margaret is survived
by four daughters: Bonnie Lois Cornett, Betty Arlene Reed, Mary Ann Wright and Wanda
Lee LeClair. She is also survived by; eight grandchildren: Linda Kay Reed, Carol
Ann Cornett, Jeffery Douglas Noble, Mary Ann Reed-Dalton, William Scott Noble, Michelle
Lee Hart, Amanda Jane Reed-Anderson and Nicole Margaret Hart-Oughterson. Margaret is
additionally survived by eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held at
Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, 920 Central Avenue, Connersville, IN. Please

Elmer G. Garrett, age 97 of Hamilton went to be with the Lord Thursday,
January 27, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Booneville, Kentucky on March 14,
1907 the son of Marcus and Minerva (Bond) Garrett. He retired from Champion Paper in
1962. Survivors include his children, Evelyn Jones, Jannette Whitmore, Marilyn Berry,
Ronnie Garrett, Bill Garrett and John Garrett; many grandchildren and great
grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Puckett; a brother, Fayette Garrett; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Shirley Garrett Baker and Elmer
Garrett Jr., brothers and sisters. The family would like to extend a special thank you
to all of Elmer's caregivers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday,
February 1, 2005 at the Colligan Funeral Home, with Pastor George Witmer officiating.

Booneville, KY Claude Gay, 74, widower of Betty Roberts Gay, passed away
Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine, KY. Claude was born
in Taft, KY, on March 6, 1934, to the late Barney and Emma McKinney Gay. He was a U. S.
Army Veteran, a member of the DAV in Cincinnati, OH, a farmer and attended the Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne (& Lois) Gay of Morehead, KY and Steve (& Kathy) Gay of Berea,
KY; a daughter, Teresa (& Mike) Johnson of Lexington, KY; seven grandchildren; and one great
grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Audley (& Laura) Gay of Booneville, KY; a sister, Eva
(& Courtley) Murrell of Miamisburg, OH; and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral services

Booneville, KY Lonnie Gay, 93, widower of Omah Barrett Gay, passed away
Friday, July 7, 2006, at his residence in Booneville. Lonnie was born on October 3,
1912, in Owsley County, Kentucky to the late Walker Benton and Martha Rowland Gay. He
was a retired employee of the State Highway Department and a member of the White Oak
Baptist Church. Survivors include five sons, Bruce J., Phillip and Aaron Gay, all of
Beattyville, Kentucky, Ben G. Gay of Corbin, Kentucky and Ron J. Gay of Cincinnati,
Ohio; two daughters, Ilene Hurt of Stanton, Kentucky and Doris J. Maccani of Beattyville,
Kentucky; 16 grandchildren ; 27 great grandchildren; and six great, great grandchildren;
and a host of relatives and friends. Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded
in death by a son, Robert Gay; three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were

Lawson Gentry, age 87, of Middletown, Ohio passed away Wednesday, July 11,
2007 at the VA Hospital in Dayton. He was born September 16, 1919 in Owsley County,
Kentucky to Robert and Bertie (Farmer) Gentry. Lawson worked for Armco Steel for 25 years
in the fabricating department. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received a Purple
Heart. Lawson was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence in 2000; son, Lawson
Gentry, Jr. in 1997; 2 brothers, Lonnie and Howard Gentry, and 6 sisters; Dorothy, Daisey,
Geneva, Pearl, Pauline and Ruth. He is survived by son, Guy (Ginger) Gentry of Hillsboro,
Ohio; daughters, Josephine (Terry) James of Sarasota, Florida and Myrtle Ann Flint of
Middletown, Ohio; 2 sisters, Dottie Stroud and Lillian Donham both of Middletown, Ohio; 10

Booneville, KY Robert Bob Franklin Gentry, 68, passed away Monday,
September 11, 2006, at the Owsley County Health Care Center in Booneville, KY. Mr.
Gentry was born in Berea, KY, on February 19, 1938, to the late Pete & Thelma Mae
Johnson Gentry. He was a former supervisor for 29 years, with the Martin Marietta
Company, where he was instrumental in the development of astronautical discoveries. He
also was an election officer for Marion County, Florida, a Kentucky Colonel, and he
served as a Medic for in the Army Reserves. Survivors include a son, Greg Gentry of
Florida; three aunts, Blanche Blankenship of N. C., Edith Wilson of Ohio and Mildred
Gibson of Lee County, KY; four uncles, Oscar, Jr. McIntosh and Robert Bob G. McIntosh,
both of Ohio, and Blake and Kash McIntosh, both of Booneville, KY; and a host of other
relatives and friends. A grave side service was held Monday, September 11, 2006, at

Booneville, KY Charles H. Gibson, 98, widower of Ruby Rexroad Gibson,
Eastside Apts., passed away January 27, 2008 at his residence. He was a member of the
Booneville Presbyterian Church, the Booneville Lions Club and the Owsley County Saddle
Club. He was retired from General Motors, Dayton, OH. Born on May 5, 1909 in Lee County,
KY, he was the son of the late Elijah and Mahulda Bowman Gibson. Mr. Gibson is survived by
two sons, Donald C. (& Jo Ann) Gibson, Dayton, Ohio and David L. (& Kathy) Gibson of Orlando,
Florida; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Gibson of

Booneville Irene Steppe Green, 87, of Knoxville, TN, widow of Carl Green, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Summit View Nursing Home of Lake City, TN. Irene was born July 29, 1922 in Owsley County, KY to the late Carl and Martha (Johnson) Steppe. She grew up in eastern Kentucky, and then spent the balance of her life in Knoxville. She was a homemaker, a member of the Oak Ridge Eastern Star, attended the Norwood Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN and enjoyed square dancing and music. Booneville, KY Johnny M. Green, 48, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. Johnny was born November 18, 1958 in Oneida, KY, to the late George and Bessie Shepherd Green. He was a self employed mechanic and attended the Church of God. He is survived by three sons, Shaun and David Green of Richmond, KY and Jonathan Green of Booneville, KY; and three grandchildren, Jonathan D. Green, Damien Blake Green and Kiara Malia Green. Also surviving are five brothers, Danny Green of Richmond, KY, Charles Green of Shepherdsville, KY, Glen S. Green of Columbia, S. C., Elisha Ray Green and James Green, both of Booneville, KY; and a host of friends, relatives, nieces and nephews. (Tirey) Green, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Highlands Regional Medical
Center in Prestonsburg, KY. Mr. Green was born in Owsley County, KY, on May 25, 1932,
to the late Claude and Mary (Herald) Green. He was a self employed heavy equipment
mechanic and farmer, and was affiliated with the Church of God. Along with his wife of
54 years, he is survived by 4 sons, Jimmy W. (& Ginger) Green, Timothy R. (& Debbie)
Green, Ricky B. and Ricky Christopher Green, all of Booneville, KY; a daughter, Sherry
L. (& David) Carte of Prestonsburg, KY; and several grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Michael W. Green, Lexington, KY; three
sisters, Ava Bray of Springsboro, OH, Wilma Shouse of Beattyville, KY and Edna Huff of
Florence, KY; and a host of friends and relatives. Besides his parents, he was preceded

GROSS, Arkie Jean (nee Johnson) devoted Mother and `Mammaw` age 75 of South
Lebanon, Ohio passed peacefully Thursday evening, October 11, 2007 at her home. Mrs. Gross
was born April 19, 1932 in Jett`s Creek, Owsley County, Kentucky to the late Elish and Rosie
(Roberts) Johnson. Preceded in death by her parents, dear husband of 41 years- Charles E.
Gross and brother- Everett (Reba) Johnson, she is survived by her four children - Teresa

Knightstown, IN Berlin C. Gross, 77, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008, at
his home after an extended illness. He was born July 24, 1930 in Cow Creek, Owsley Co., KY, the
son of the late Clearance and Hattie Anderson Gross. He retired in 1990 from Firestone Tire and
Rubber in Noblesville, after 38 years of service. He then worked at the New Castle Saw Mill until
he retired in 2003. A member of the Grant City Wesleyan Church, he taught Sunday School for over
50 years and served on the church board for many years. He enjoyed hunting and working. He was a
family man who enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his
wife of 60 years, Faye Darline Gross of Grant City; eight children, Larry (& wife Sandra) Gross, Donnie
(& wife Patty) Gross, both of Grant City, Lenville (& wife Leanna) Gross of rural Shirley, Lavonne Schuyler,
Ronnie (& wife Nancy) Gross, of Kinghtstown, Kathy Gross, Roger (& wife Janet) Gross and Sheila Wagner, all
of Grant City; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ronald (& wife
Bonnie) Gross of New Castle, and Lonnie (& wife Sandra) Reger of La Porte; two sisters, Louise Smith of
Knightstown and Connie (& husband Steve) Schuyler of Maxwell; and several nieces and nephews. In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step dad, Gilbert Reger, two brothers, Jerry Reger and Raymond
Gross; a sister, Marsha Joan Reger; and four great grandchildren. Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday,

Duluth Gross, 86, of Sexton Creek passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 at her
residence. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Pink Gross and the following children:

Booneville, Ky--Tony Gross, 27, of Ricetown, KY, passed away Sunday, July
8, 2007, of injuries sustained in an ATV accident. Tony was born February 29, 1980 in
Manchester, KY to J. C. and Evelyn Callahan Gross. He was a former night watchman,
attended the Indian Creek Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed fishing, country music, and
working on automobiles. Along with his parents, he is survived by a brother, Jamie
Gross of Ricetown, KY; grandmothers, Ida Callahan and Ethel Gross, both of Booneville,
KY; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his
grandfathers, Earnest Gross and Oscar Callahan, and an uncle, Scott Callahan. Funeral

Hubert Grubb, age 81 of South Lebanon passed peacefully Saturday June 17,
2006 at his home with his family at his side. Born February 24, 1925 in Clay County,
Kentucky the son of Vernon and Bessie (Pennington) Grubb, he was retired as a machine
operator with the US Burke Corp. He was a charter member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church
in South Lebanon and was a member of the Booneville, Kentucky Masonic Lodge. Preceded in
death by his parents and several brothers and sisters, he is survived by his loving and
devoted wife of 63 years, Bessie (Edwards) Grubb and daughter Sandra Kay (David) Moore,
all of South Lebanon; brother Hobert Grubb of Kentucky; sisters Doris Byrd of Kentucky,
Eileen Barrett of Sharonville and Laura Steley of Cincinnati; grandchildren Kari Ricke,
Clint Bogan and Terry Bogan; and great-grandchildren Brittani Blevins, Kaitlin and
Mackenzie Ricke; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and dear

Fannie EuDella Guess, 76, of Richmond, died Sunday, June 17, 2007. Born
Oct. 10, 1930, in Booneville, Ky., to Henry and Nan Jett Guess, she had worked at the
Leland Hotel and was a caregiver in her home. Among survivors are a sister-in-law,
brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Service will be noon Friday at Community

Gumm for 26 years, entered into the Kingdom of her Savior on Wednesday, October 8, 2008,
at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, KY. Sherry was born in El Paso, TX, on
June 9, 1956, the daughter of Claude and the late Betty Roberts Gay. She was a retired
teacher for the Owsley County Board of Education, and a member of the Warrens Chapel
United Methodist Church. Besides her father, and her husband, she leaves to cherish her
memory, two sons, Dustin Ryan and Heath Christopher Gumm, both of Booneville, KY; two
brothers, Wayne (& Lois) Gay of Morehead, KY, and Steve (& Kathy) Gay, of Berea, KY; a
sister, Teresa (& Mike) Johnson of Lexington, KY; and a host of relatives and friends.
