DANVILLE- Dr. Charles K. Mahaffey, 89, of Danville, a retired radiologist, died Tue, August 1, 2006. Born in 1917, he was the son of the late Carter and Lisa Mahaffey. He was the widower of Ethel Hubbard Mahaffey. He was a graduate of Berea College and received his medical degree from The University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He served in the US Army and in the US Air Force. Survivors include a son, Charles K. Mahaffey of Louisville; a daughter, Sue Mahaffey Anderson of Fresno, CA; a brother, James M. James Donald Mainous, 90 years of age died on December 5, 2007 in Waynesville, Ohio. James Donald, born on Nov. 19, 1917 was the son of the late Ray and Jennie Brandenburg Mainous, formerly of Owsley County. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Ralph; two sisters, Ayleen and Josephine. Mainous, William (Bill) Eugene
Winston-Salem - William (Bill) Eugene Mainous, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at his home in Winston-Salem. Bill was a caring person who loved his family, his church, his fellow man and served in many ways to improve their well-being. He was born March 28, 1931 in Waynesville, to Charlie and Dora Price Mainous who preceded him in death. He attended Bethel High School in Haywood County, graduated from Brevard Jr. College and received Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Dairy Science from North Carolina State University. After serving in the Army he began a career of 37 years with the North Carolina Agriculture Extension Service which included service in Forsyth County as a 4-H Agent, Dairy Science Agent at NC State University, Dairy Agent in Forsyth and Yadkin Counties, and as County Extension Chairman in Davie and Orange Counties. Bill was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, youth counselor, usher, Chair of Trustees and in the early 1990's led the building expansion program for the church. He is survived by his wife, Pat Reeves Mainous, who he married Dec. 21, 1958. Also surviving are his daughter, Fleeta Mainous Hall and her husband, Herbert Roger Hall Jr., and their children, Brooke and Sandra Hall of Winston-Salem; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph William and Catherine Whaling Mainous and their children, Daniel and Elizabeth Mainous of Mooresville; a brother, Charles Mainous of Columbus, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Lora Reeves Thrash and her husband, Thomas L. Thrash, of Asheville; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church fellowship hall, and again after the service on Saturday. Irvine, KY Wilson Lazarus Mainous, 76, of Rice Station Road, passed away Monday,
October 9, 2006, at his home. He was born December 19, 1929, in Owsley County and was the son
of the late James L. and Ada Wilson Mainous. He was a retired mortician and a retired employee
of Rockwell International. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, F & AM, Scottish Rite
of Fremasonary, and the UAW Local 1537. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Etta Price Mainous;
three daughters, Diane Johnson and husband David of Union, KY, Ada Rene West, and her husband Otis,
and Marty Dawn Reffett and husband Scott, of Irvine; a son, Michael Wilson Mainous, Irvine, Kentucky;
a sister, Violet Dooley of Booneville, Kentucky; and a brother, Mart V. Mainous, also of Irvine, Kentucky.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Stacey Bruce, Carey Johnson, Michael Bret Mainous, Steven Van
Mainous and Kirsten West; and three great grandchildren. Mr. Mainous was preceded in death by two sisters,
Jessie Turner and Nettie Katherine Mainous. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 13, 2006 at
11:00 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel in Irvine, KY by Bro. Jim Ashcraft and Bro. Jerry Rose.

Maradie, Betty Gay Betty Gay Maradie, 76, passed away August 26, 2006, at the South Lake
Hospital in Clermont, Florida. She was born April 16, 1930, in Bedford, Indiana to the late
Jack William Gay and Olive May Hale Gay. She was a retired real estate agent and a member of
the Family Christian Center in Clermont, FL. Survivors include two brothers, David (& Linda)
Gay of Mt. Sterling, KY and Bob (& Dessie) Gay of Hamilton, OH; her sister-in-law, Wilma Gay
of Hamilton, OH; and a host of friends and relatives. Besides her parents, she was preceded

Sentinel August 31, 2006 Marshall, Crystal Lynn Booneville, KY Crystal Lynn Marshall, 19, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008,
from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Jackson County, KY. She was born August 22, 1998 in
Clay Co., KY, to the late Kenneth and Dana Riley Marshall. Crystal was a 2006 graduate of Jackson County
High School, a former employee for Save A Lot Grocery and attended the Baptist Church. Survivors include
her paternal grandmother, and guardian, Bertha Hacker Marshall of Booneville, KY; two sisters, Amanda and
Eva Marshall, both of McKee, KY; and a half brother, Robert Stapleton of IN. Also surviving is her paternal
grandfather, Kenneth Terry of FL; her maternal grandmother, Nellie Riley of Booneville, KY; numerous aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives. Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her maternal grandfather, Ledford Riley. Funeral services were held Friday, February 8, 2008, at

Marshall. He was a former farmer, a lifetime resident of Owsley County, Kentucky and a

and Timmy (& June) Marshall, both of Ricetown, Kentucky and Wallace (& Marie) Marshall
of Booneville, Kentucky; three daughters, Wilma (& Bill) Duff of Newport, Kentucky,
Geraldine (& Tommy) Minter of Ricetown, Kentucky and Geneva (& Letcher) Combs of South
Lebanon, Ohio; 25 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and a host of friends and
relatives. Along with his wife and his parents he was preceded in death by a son,

Bowman, Berea, Kentucky, Gail (Delbert Terry), Campbell Co., Kentucky, Brenda Tolson, Morgan Co.,
Kentucky, Debbie Reynolds, Kenton Co., Kentucky; three sons, Edward (Pam) Hurdle, Babe McAlister
and Eugene Reynolds, Booneville, Kentucky; 25 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren. Also
surviving is a brother, Floyd Marshall, Booneville, Kentucky; five sisters, Ida Callahan, Flora
Callahan, Joan Reynolds, all of Booneville, Joyce Barrett, Richmond, Kentucky and Maude States,

2007 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky. She was 59 years, 8
months, 16 days. Marie is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 41 years,
Minister Gary Marshall and also by 3 daughters Elizabeth Marie (and Randy) Gabbard
of Winchester, KY, Samantha Ann (and Jamie) Creech of Lexington, KY and Laura Lee
(and Donny) Leonard of McNeill, MS, two loving grandsons Gary Wayne Gabbard and
Jadon Dean Creech, and three grandchildren by heart Donny Jr., Jake and Kacie
Leonard. Marie was born to Walter M. and Freda Belle Taylor on January 10, 1948.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by 1 sister, Rachel Toothman. She
is survived by many family and friends, including one sister, Nancy Bauman. Mare was
a wonderful Christian who valued her relationship with God first. Marie was baptized
into Christs Church on June 12, of 1972. She truly lived a selfless life of a
ministers wife. She devoted herself to always being there for her daughters and
grandchildren, regardless of her physical struggles. Marie enjoyed spending much of
her free time reading her Bible and working on her crafts. It always brought her
great pleasure to share her crafts with her family, friends, and anyone she met.
Despite her many handicaps she had to overcome, Marie managed to brighten the day of
everyone whose life she touched. To all of those who were fortunate enough to experience
her love here on earth, do not mourn her passing, as her soul has gone on to its reward
and another jewel has been placed in paradise. She will be missed by all who knew her.
By request, she will be laid to rest at the Lee County Church of Christ Cemetery in
Beattyville, KY on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Brother Ken Chambers will

Lexington Herald Leader June 10, 2006 McCollum, William Howard William Howard McCollum, 83, of Frankfort, KY, formerly of Lexington, KY, died
Sun, July 1, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born on Aug 17, 1923 at Travellers Rest,
KY. He was the son of the late Dr. Wendell D. McCollum and Ethel McCollum. He was also
preceded in death by his brother, Wendell Douglas McCollum Jr. He is survived by his
devoted wife Suann; stepson, Mark Hughes (Gina); grandson, Caleb William Hughes who was
his namesake. He is also survived by an extended family, Donna Land (Bobby), Mary Hurd,
Michael McKnight (Marsha); and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He proudly served in
the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II. He was a loving, kind, and humble man, known by his
friends and co-workers as "Dr. Mc". William obtained his Bachelor and Master of Science
degrees from the University of KY in 1947 and 1949, respectively and his PhD degree from
the University of Wisconsin in 1954. He joined the Dept. of Veterinary Science,
University of KY, as an assistant bacteriologist in 1949 and was appointed to the
faculty in 1954. Between 1962 and 1964, he was a visiting professor at the Institute
Pertanian Bogor, Bogor, Java, Indonesia. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 2004 after
over 50 years of service at the University of KY. He was recognized nationally and
internationally for his research in the field of equine infectious diseases. He became a
world authority on equine viral arteritis, a disease of significant concern for the
Thoroughbred Industry in KY in 1984 and against which he had developed a vaccine many
years earlier. He had a long and very distinguished academic career, with well over 100
scientific publications to his credit. A member of numerous scientific societies and
associations, Dr. McCollum was also an honorary member of the KY Medical Association, KY
Thoroughbred Farm Manager's Club and an Associate Member of the KY Association of Equine
Practitioners. He was a member of Trinity Hill Methodist Church. Visitation will be at
Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Rd. Thu from 4-9pm and funeral services will
be 10am Fri at the same location with burial in the Lexington Cemetery. Pallbearers will

Woodridge on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 2:00 AM. He was born in Rice Town, Kentucky on
December 4, 1911 the son of John and Jane McDaniel. Harry was employed as a deputy
sheriff in the Butler County Sheriff's office for 21 years, retiring in 1978, and was a
member of the FOP. On April 18, 1936 in Beattyville, Kentucky he married Edna Mason,
who preceded him in death in 2003. He is survived by two daughters, Dorris Jean
(Charles) Poe of Liberty, Indiana, and Anna Rose (James) Musch of Huntsville, Alabama;
nine grandchildren, Peter Augustine Sorrentino, Stephanie Jean Groh, Teresa Marie
Kostalansky, Melinda J. Bicknell, Linda Ann Howard, Cheryl Ann Langley, James K. Musch,
Joann Claire Sorrentino, and Daniel H. Musch; two step-grandchildren, Charles Poe Jr.
and Sherry Diersing; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
parents; a daughter, Frances Irene Bicknell; three brothers, Fred McDaniel, Herman
McDaniel, and Willie McDaniel; and a sister, Laura Thomas. Funeral Service will be
held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Thursday, May 4, 2006

passed away Sunday, December 18, 2005, at his residence. He was born November
7, 1963, in Owsley Count to Jean Scott McDaniel and the late Jim McDaniel.
He enjoyed farming and was a lifetime resident of Owsley County, Kentucky.

and was a member of Dixie Highway Christian Center. Mona is survived by her husband,

23, 2006. McIntosh, Roy J. Went to be with his lord on July 28, 2004 at Plainwell Pines
Nursing Home. Roy was born May 9, 1917 in Turkey Creek, Ky, the son of Andy
and America (Turner) McIntosh. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines
and Hawaii during World War II, and came to Kalamazoo , Michigan In 1946.
Prior to his retirement he worked at the James River Paper Company, as a Millwright
for 35 years. Roy was a longtime member of the Kalamazoo Wesleyan Church,
where he served in various capacities, He enjoyed reading and especially gardening.

she married Recus Rick McKinney, who died October 20, 2001. She enjoyed country music, spending

County, KY and departed this life Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Owsley County Health

Ed C. & Effie D. Smith Pierson and was a member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church.
Beulah is survived by her loving husband, Dewey McWhorter of Booneville; three children,

survived by three sister, Lillian Scott of Connersville, IN, Pauline Marsh of Green Hall
and Ethel Duff of London, KY. Beulah was blessed with four grandchildren, Doug and

Miamisburg, OH on April 2, 2008. He was born in Owsley County, KY on May 16, 1917, the oldest
child of Finley and Nettie (Napier) MOORE. Norman leaves his beloved wife, Ruby (Amburgy) MOORE,
whom he married on March 20, 1937, and they were married for 71 years. He leaves four daughters,
Shelby Shuppert and her husband Gary of Trenton, OH, Donna Bannon and her husband Hank, of Trenton,
Carolyn Hale of Carlisle, OH, Linda Petrey and her husband Charles of Carlisle and a daughter-in-law,

friends. He was preceded in death by his only son, Norman MOORE, Jr. on June 23, 2003, a great-granddaughter,

Morris, Jean Adams and Nell Isbel. Norman loved being outdoors and was a man of many interests including
fishing, hunting, gardening, woodcarving, an avid reader, a skilled artist and painter, and loved traveling.
He spoke often of his trips to Hawaii, Alaska, and the Holy Land. He once said he never had a boring day after
retirement from General Motors in 1975. He also enjoyed being with his wife and family and cat Pooh-Pooh.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp 1935-1936. Funeral service will be held at Anderson Funeral Home,

Murrell, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at the Kentucky River Medical
Center in Jackson, Kentucky. He was born in Booneville, Kentucky, on January
28, 1930, to the late Oakley and Laura Lynch Murrell. He was a retired heavy
equipment operator for the Kentucky State Department of Highways, a former
coal miner, a farmer and a member of the Beattyville First Church of God.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry and Donnie Murrell,
both of Owsley County, Kentucky; three daughters, Karen Jennings of Franklin
County, Kentucky, Patsy Frye and Christine Moore, both of Owsley County, Kentucky;
a brother, Ed Murrell of Booneville, Kentucky; a sister, Nancy Johnson of
Dayton, Ohio; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren,
