Booneville, KY – John R. Ramsey, 73, of Foster, KY passed away on April 28, 2009, at the St. Lukes Hospital East in Fort Thomas, KY after a long illness. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a Mason with the Masonic Lodge # 482, Farmersville. Mr. Ramsey was a Security Officer for McCalls Printing and Black River Mines. He was born on June 12, 1935 in Owsley County, KY to Park Ramsey & Sarah Emma Barrett Ramsey and the widower of Dottie Johnson Ramsey. He is survived by his mother, Sarah Emma Bishop of Booneville; a brother, James Ramsey, a sister, Lucille Skaggs; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Albert Ramsey and a sister, Dorothy Jackson. RARRIECK, MAXINE BECKNELL

Maxine Becknell Rarrieck was born May 2, 1947 in Clay County and departed this life Sunday, March 29, 2009 at her residence in Hamersville, Ohio, being 61 years of age. She was the daughter of the late James Earl “E.C.” Becknell and Minnie Baker Becknell. Maxine is survived by her husband Bill Rarrieck of Hamersville, Ohio; by two children- James Pierson of Tyner and Mary Pierson Moore of Norwood, Ohio and by one sister- Joyce Turner of Norwood, Ohio. She was blessed with three grandchildren- Ian Pierson of Tyner, Matthew Moore and Madison Moore both of Norwood, Ohio. In addition to her parents, Maxine was also preceded in death by a sister- Marlene Lee. Maxine was a member of the Withemsville Church of Christ. Manchester, KY – Deborah Kay Herald Reece, 34, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2007, from injuries sustained in a car accident in Clay County, KY. She was a former nurse’s aide for the Stanton Nursing Home, a homemaker and a member of the Beattyville Christian Church. Along with her parents, she is survived by her fiancιe, Shawn Gibson of Manchester, KY; two sons, Austin Effort Reece and Ethan Darrell Wilder both of Beattyville, KY; three daughters, Christin Kaylee Reece and Gabriel Faith Reece, both of Beattyville, KY and Madison Patience Jean Gibson of Manchester, KY. Also surviving are her two brothers, Ronnie Paul Herald of Beattyville, KY and Jeremiah Corbit Freeman of Manchester, KY; four sisters, Angela Dawn Murrell of Booneville, KY, Melissa Rose Riley and Renita Renee Herald both of Beattyville, KY, and Jessica Hope Freeman of Manchester, KY; her paternal grandmother, Lillian Herald of Beattyville, KY; and a host of other relatives and friends. Billy Reed, Age 71 of Franklin, OH passed away on April 30, 2008 at his residence. He was born January 26, 1937 in Owsley County, KY, the son of James and Ida Reed. He worked as a custodian for Franklin City Schools. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gentry Reed and a sister, Faye Mayes. Billy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lorene; two daughters Donna Carpenter (Kenny) of Franklin, OH and Piney Reed of Franklin; three brothers Gene Reed (Ethel) of Booneville, KY, Junior Reed (Dot) of Booneville, KY, and Fred Reed (Grace) of Middletown, OH; three sisters Ollie Turner of Beattyville, KY, Alice Fox of Booneville, KY, and Aileen McIntosh of Booneville, KY. Lexington, KY – Frances Becknell Renfroe, 74, passed away Monday, August 18, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. Frances was born in Owsley County on October 3, 1933, to the late Regon and Lucy Bowman Becknell. She was retired from Foam Design Incorporated in Lexington, KY, and attended the Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Tim (& Charlotte) Renfroe of Batesville, IN; a grandson, Travis Ray Renfroe; her former husband, Ray Renfroe of Lexington, KY; a sister, Ethel Harvey of Xenia, OH; and a host of friends and relatives. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kendall and Benny Becknell and two sisters, Nina Mays and Georgia Taylor. William Grant Retherford, age 65, of Franklin OH, passed away January 14, 2005 at his residence. He was born April 3, 1939 in Owsley County KY, the son of Charlie and Gertrude (Taylor) Retherford. He was a veteran of the US Army and was employed for 35 years by G.M. Harrison Radiator as an auditor, retiring in 2001. William was a member of the Bonita Drive Church of Christ. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Raymond Retherford, and a sister Etta Belle Gray. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joy (Click) Retherford; 3 sons, Duane (Sharon) Retherford of West Middletown OH, Travis (Beth) Retherford of Springboro OH, Erik Retherford of Franklin OH, and a step son, Mark (Belinda) Crawford of Miamisburg OH; brothers, Dallas Retherford of Trenton OH, John Retherford of Franklin OH, Danny Retherford of Bluff City TN, and Marion Retherford of West Carrollton OH; 2 sisters, Hazel Combs of Loveland OH and Ethel Creager of Middletown OH. REYNOLDS, CARL R.

Booneville, KY – Carl R. Reynolds, 86, passed away August 15, 2008, at the Eastern KY Veterans Center, Hazard, KY after a long illness. He was a member of the Cow Creek Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Reynolds was a former state representative from 1956 to 1958. He was a retired merchant and Real Estate Developer, and was instrumental in securing the Booneville City Water & Sewer System, the new Owsley Co. courthouse and the Owsley County Health Care Center. He was born on October 13, 1921 to the late Willie C. and Mae Treadway Reynolds. He was married to his wife, Mary Lou Estepp Reynolds for 67 years, who survives him. Also surviving is his daughter, Donna (& Wayne) Marshall, granddaughter, Shana (& Michael) Turner of Booneville; a grandson, Travis Marshall of Richmond, KY; two granddaughters, Mika and Shania Turner of Booneville; a sister, Lana Egner of Maysville, KY; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Estepp of Booneville. Booneville, KY – Don Edward Reynolds, 59, of Bear Run, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at his residence. Don was born June 18, 1947 in Owsley County, to the late Carl and Bethel Fox Reynolds. He was a former machine operator for Monsanto Company in Addison, Ohio, and a U. S. Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War with the rank of Sergeant. His list of medals include the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart and V Medal of Valor. Survivors include two sisters, Helen Riley of Walton, KY and Virginia of Union, Ky; and a host of friends and relatives. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Reynolds Little and Emma Frances Reynolds, and a brother Carl Reynolds, Jr. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 13, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at Booneville Funeral Home, with Rev. OLLIE J. REYNOLDS, 74, OF Celina, OH, an Owsley County native, passed away Friday, March 10, 2006 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, OH of a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Riley and Mima Roberts Tharp, she was a housewife and a loving mother. (She was married to Aussie Reynolds, son of Minerva Spencer and James Reynolds, until his death in 1972) Survivors include her spouse and long time friend Walter Roberts; six daughters, Elizabeth Reynolds Shouse, Lucille, Kay , Ginger, Joyce, and Penny Roberts; four sons Robert; Carl and James Reynolds and Rick Roberts and nine grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons: James Little Reynolds and Ralph Reynolds. (One step-daughter, Mare Reynolds Smith). Booneville, Ky - Ralph M. Reynolds, 88 of Route 1 passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, KY after a short illness. He was born in Owsley County on January 18, 1918 to Roy and Eva Frost Reynolds. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of the Cow Creek Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Beulah "Boots" Hearld Reynolds of Mt. Sterling, KY; a daughter, Dorothy S. (& Ray) Taylor of Clearwater, Florida; a granddaughter, Tonya (& Roger) Reffitt of Mt. Sterling, KY; a great grandson, Tyler Reffitt, also of Mt. Sterling; a brother, Glenn Reynolds and a sister, Marie Moyers, both of Dayton, Ohio. Born in Owsley County on February 15, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Young Woodward, and the widow of Ralph Reynolds, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Billy Ray Reynolds of Booneville, KY and Ralph Douglas Reynolds (& Robin) of Manchester, KY; two daughters, Melissa Louise (& Shawn) Allen and Jessica Lynn Reynolds, of Booneville; two sisters, Francis Reynolds and Louise (& Tommy Jr.) Baker, both of Booneville, KY; three brothers, Bill (& Reba) Woodward, David (&Bonnie) Woodward, both of Booneville and Richard (& Pearl) Woodward of Beattyville, KY; and six grandchildren. Anna was born in Hebron, KY on July 16, 1931, to the late Henry and Easter Edington Bowman. She was a homemaker and took joy in raising her family. She is survived by a son, Robert (& Brenda) Rice of Beattyville, KY; a bother, Harvey Bowman of Evansville, IN; three sisters, Dorothy Quicksel of Fresno, CA and Effie and Thelma Bowman both of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Booneville, KY – Earl Riley, 64, of Caney Fork in Owsley County, passed away on January 28, 2008, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was the son of the late Oscar and Polly Johnson Riley. Survivors include two daughters, Polly and Ashley; a son, Earl Riley, Jr.; brothers, Melvin Riley of Indiana and David Riley of Ohio; sisters, Bernice Campbell of Booneville, KY, Hazel Riley Melton of GA, Mary Riley of Arizona and Martha Jane Ray of OH; and several other relatives and friends. Booneville, KY – James Riley, 48, of Owsley County, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at his residence. James was born on March 13, 1958, in Hazard, Kentucky to Nellie Mae McIntosh Riley of Booneville, and the late Ledford Riley. He attended the Hilltop Baptist Church. Along with his mother, he is survived by five brothers, Melvin, Earl, Freddie Ray, Lester and Donald Riley, all of Owsley County; seven sisters, Brenda Turner and Debbie Banks, both of Lee County, KY, Louise McIntosh and Ruby Roberts, both of Owsley County, Margaret Elem of Austin, Indiana, Lesa Creech of Lexington, Ky., Polly Burns of Indiana; a special friend, Helen Keith of Lee County, KY; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Darla Kay Marshall, and his father. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home with the Rev. Frankfort, KY – Curtis Ripy, 65, of Frankfort, KY, formerly of Booneville, KY passed away Friday, March 26, 2010 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Ripy and Mary Bell Ripy Shepard; a brother, C. B. Ripy, two sisters, Gladys Moreland and Evelyn Johnson. A native of Anderson County, he was born June 5, 1944. Mr. Ripy retired after 31 years of service with Allied Signal. He is survived by his wife, Carol Sue Allen Ripy; three sons, Bobby Ripy, Lawrenceburg, Christopher Ripy, Winchester, Curtis M. Alene Combs Ritter, 77, of Ringgold, Ga., died on Tuesday March 25, 2008 in a local hospital. She was a native of Booneville, Ky., but had lived in the North Georgia area for 44 years. David Roberts age 81 of the Everton Community passed away Sunday July 13, 2008 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born August 11, 1926 in Owsley County, KY the son of the late Elihue and Lydia Reed Roberts. He has resided in the Connersville and Everton area since 1952. He is a charter member and deacon of the Blooming Grove Family Worship Center. David served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a medic in the Phillipines. He is a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He farmed all of his life in addition to working for several years at Rex. Manufacturing and D & M until retirement. He was an outdoorsman and a hunter. He was married for over 60 years to Bertha Gabbard Roberts to whom he was married on March 27, 1948 in Booneville, KY. He is survived by his wife, Rita Brewer Roberts of Hamilton; two sons, Greg Roberts and Darryl (& Candi) Roberts of Ohio; two daughters, Lisa (& Bruce) Herring and Rhonda (& the late Dale Brewer) of Chicago; two sisters, Rosetta (& Jim) Riddell, Dayton, Ohio and the late Joanna (& James) Meredith of Tennessee; a nephew, Rodney Roberts (son of Rosetta) of Dayton, Ohio. He was a devoted grandfather to Dylan, Dale, Sean, Simone, Alex and Casey. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Roberts and his sister, Joanna Roberts Meredith. ROBERTS, LENA MAE WILSON

Booneville, KY – Lena Mae Roberts, 91, was born September 10, 1916, one of 14 children to Mattie Turner and Pet Wilson of Cow Creek, KY in Owsley County. She passed away November 30th at Memorial Hospital in Manchester, KY, after spending six weeks in the Owsley County Health Care Center in Booneville, where a great deal of loving kindness and care was given to her. In December of 1938, she married Tilmon Roberts, who preceded her in death in November of 1998. She is survived by their only daughter, Ruby Bowling, of Manchester, KY, and two granddaughters, Betty Cornish and husband, Allen, of Lexington, KY, and Beverly Sebastian and husband, Michael, of Brentwood, Tennessee. Surviving also is one very special nephew, Marvin Wilson and his wife Debbie, who have gone far beyond any reasonable expectations to show love and kindness. She is also survived by four brothers, Homer Wilson of Booneville, KY, Carl Wilson of Germantown, OH, Roy Wilson of Raleigh, N. C., and Raymond Wilson of Smithfield, KY, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was a housewife, as well as a worker in the fields with her husband. She was affiliated with the First Church of God and listened faithfully to her preachers on television and radio. She was buried near her childhood home on Cow Creek in the Wilson Cemetery beside her husband. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Booneville Funeral Home. Rev. J. Claude Robertson, age 78, of Carlisle, OH; went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Hospice of Butler/Warren Counties. Claude was born in Booneville KY on November 24, 1931 to James and Lucy (Moore) Robertson. He was a member and former pastor of Cherry Valley United Baptist Church in Hamilton. Claude was preceded in death by parents, sisters Esther Stevens and Fannie Ball. Betty Lou Robinson, 77, widow of Harmon Robinson Sr passed away January 29, 2009. She was born March 17, 1931 in Owsley County to Freddie and Edna Edwards. Mrs Robinson had lived most of her life in Madison County and was a member of Grace Wesleyan Church. She is survived by: one son, Harmon(Anna) Robinson Jr, four daughters, Carol (Tim) Casteel, Charleen (Bill) Robinson both of Estill County. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Mayes Rose; one son, James Tifton Rose, of Richmond; three daughters, Rebecca (Jeff) Clark, of Somerset, Susan Dalton, of Richmond and Mary Ann Sowers (Mark), of Richmond; one sister, Sally (Richard) Childers, of Richmond; eight grandchildren, Amanda Sowers Durbin (Neil), Tabitha Clark, Daniel Dalton, Casey Clark, Matthew Rose, Sarah Dalton, Zachory Dalton, and Austin Rose; lifelong friends, Darrell and Lois Fritz and Lorretta Witt; and a host of numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Malachi Sowers. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday, July 13, 2009, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Arthur Hunt, Bro. Lexington, KY – Reba McIntyre Rose, 89, of Mable Lane, formally of Booneville and Beattyville, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Feb 22, 2008. She was born on May 16, 1918 at Levi, KY to William L. McIntyre and Elizabeth Ann Mainous McIntyre. She was a member of the Booneville United Methodist Church and a retired bookkeeper. Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Callahan Rose; an infant son, Kenneth Rose; brothers, Fred, Lester, and infant brother Dorsey; sisters Maude Hicks, Gertrude Venable, Mable Jones and Dorothy Arnold. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rose of Lexington, KY; son William Edward Rose (Belinda Congleton Rose) of Flowery Branch, GA, granddaughter; Jennifer Elizabeth Rose of Atlanta, GA; grandson, James Douglas (Candice) Rose of Braselton, GA; sister, Fannie Belle Venable of Mason, OH; and a host of family and friends. Mrs. Rose worked in Lee and Owsley Counties for more than 39 years before moving to Lexington, Kentucky. Funeral services were held on Mon., Feb 25, 2008 at 11am at the Searcy & Strong Funeral Home in Booneville, KY with Rev. Jamie Brunk officiating. ROSE, ROSEMARY JOHNSON

Hazel Green, KY – Rosemary Johnson Rose, 73, formerly of Booneville, KY passed away at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Arkansas. She was born in Hazel Green, Kentucky. Rosemary and her beloved husband, Billy G. Rose, lived in Bella Vista, Arkansas for three years. She loved to travel, read and spend time with her family. She was a member of the Christian Church, a lifelong member of the National PTA and a dedicated community volunteer. She leaves behind her husband, Billy G. Rose of Hazel Green; four children, Diane, Paul, Ray and Rebecca; two grandchildren, Nathan and Nicholas; and her brother, Byron Johnson. Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, Arch and Angie Rose Johnson; and her brother, E. A. Johnson. Funeral services were held at Hazel Green Christian Church on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with burial immediately following at the Hazel Green Cemetery. Visitation held on Friday, March 16, 2007 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Hazel Green Christian Church. Porter and Sons Funeral Home of Campton, Kentucky were in charge of arrangements. Andrew “Andy” Russell, 68, of Sextons Creek, Ky, was born January 22nd 1941 Owsley Co.,Ky. and departed this life on April 11th 2009. at the Manchester Memorial Hospital, Manchester, Ky He was a member of Clarks Chapel Baptist Church of Sextons Creek, Ky. He is survived by his wife Audrey Russell of Sextons Creek, Ky, 2 daughters, Lori Turner of Fairfield, Ohio, Tammy Deck of Moorse Hills, Ind, and 1 son, William Russell of Milan, Ind. 1 Step-daughter Myra Frost of Sextons Creek, Ky, 7 grand-children and 3 step-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother, David Russell of Brookville, Ind, 1 sister Ruth Benear of Douglasville, Georgia, 1 half-sister, Annette Shannon of Georgetown, Ohio and 1 step-sister, Linda Couger of Georgetown, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Russell and Zola Byrd Russell Cavins. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be missed by his family, friends, neighbors and church family. Visitation services will be held Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 after 6pm at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services for Andrew Russell will be held 2pm Wed April 15th at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Cunigan officiating. RUSSELL, WINNIE B. WHITE

Maysville, KY – Winnie B. Russell, 80, of the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Owsley Co., passed away Thursday, February 9, 2007 after a long illness. She was born on October 1, 1926 in Lowndes Co., Mississippi to the late Robert Lee White and Viola Herman White. She was a retired cannery worker. She was the widow of Fred Russell. She is survived by three daughters, Linda Coger and Annette Shannon, both of Georgetown, OH and Ruth Benear of Douglasville, GA; two sons, David Russell, Mt. Carmel, IN and Andrew Russell of Booneville, KY; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years (Fred Russell); her parents; two brothers, Clarence and Herman White; and two sisters, Katherine Peters and Grace Stallings. Funeral services at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home with Rev. Lucian Estridge officiating. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 Sunday, prior to the funeral. Burial in the Moore Cemetery at Sextons Creek, with Searcy and Strong Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
